Health Screen Protocol
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the following protocol is in place. Please do your part to keep children, families, and staff healthy.
Temperature Check
Child with a temperature of 100.4ºF or higher cannot enter care.
Health Screening
Parent/caregiver answer the following questions:
- Has your child been in close contact with a person who has COVID-19?
If YES, the child cannot enter care. - Has your child felt unwell in the last 24 hours? (A fever of 100.4ºF or above, signs of fever (chills/sweating), vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, sore throat, new uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing, new onset of severe headache, or loss of taste of smell.)
If YES, the child cannot enter care.
Returning to Care
A child with a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, severe headache, sore throat or body aches (exhibits only one symptom) must be symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to care, or 24 hours symptom free following a negative COVID-19 test.
A child with COVID-19 symptoms such as new uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, or fever along with extreme tiredness, chills, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, body aches, or headache must visit a healthcare provider. If another cause is identified for the symptoms, the individual may return to care once symptoms improve and they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine that reduces fevers.
If another cause is not identified, the individual should be tested for COVID-19.
If a COVID-19 test is not done, the individual should stay home until:
- They have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine that reduces fevers AND
- Other symptoms have improved AND
- At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
COVID-19 Testing
- If the child tests negative for COVID-19, they must be symptom-free for 24 hours prior to returning to care.
- If a child tests positive for COVID-19, the child can return to care when he/she has been fever-free for 24 hours without taking any fever-reducing medicine AND other symptoms are improving AND at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
If a child was in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19:
- The child must quarantine for 10 days beginning on the last day of possible exposure.
- If a household member was the close contact, the household member must be fever-free for 24 hours without taking any fever-reducing medicine, AND other symptoms are improving AND at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared before the child can start an additional 10 day quarantine to monitor for symptoms.
If they do not develop symptoms in these 10 days, they can return to care.
Pick-up / Drop-off Procedures
- All families are required to stop by the office upon entry to WCDC. Amber or Tanya will conduct a health screening, which includes a few questions and a temperature check. Again, please remember that no one with a fever over 100.4 will be permitted to stay.
- When possible, please assign a single member of your family to pick up and drop off. In the event that you need someone outside of your family home to pick up or drop off, please advise them to ring the doorbell and wait there for a staff member. We will then bring your child to their classroom or retrieve them to go home. As always, notify your child’s teacher if someone aside from you will be picking up, and remind the designated person to bring identification.
- We ask that all adults wear face masks when entering our facility. Children are not required to wear a face covering.
- Please escort your children to their classroom door and sign them in, we are asking that you do not enter the classroom. Be sure teachers know your child is now being left in their care. This part is key, as the children must never be left unattended.
- To help us minimize germ transmission within the center, please limit your time at WCDC to 5 minutes. We realize this may be difficult if you have multiple children, but ask that you do your best to respect these necessary restrictions.
Bunny Room Procedures
- At the present time, we are asking that you do not enter the classroom. Teachers are prepared to greet you at the classroom door both at pick-up and drop-off. Please note that the teachers are caring for several children and you may have to wait a couple of minutes until someone is free. Please remember to wear a mask whenever entering our facility.
- Since parents will not be allowed into the classroom, we ask that you bring all items in a labeled reusable bag for your child. This will allow us to easily place items in your child’s cubby. On Fridays, teachers will place all your items in that same bag to be laundered at home.
- We also ask that you please refrain from bringing non-essential items from home. If possible, please limit your items to a small blanket, pillow and stuffed animal for nap, and a set of extra clothes. We ask that you make sure these items are small enough to fit neatly in your child’s cubby. We would like to limit the amount of items being transferred between home and our center.
- In place of our regular communication, we are asking families to email our new classroom email address: bunnyroom@wpcgr.org (we will check this account daily between 1:00 – 2:00). Again, we know this won’t be able to replace our usual conversations, but we hope that it will still allow us to have some form of open communication for the time being.
